Postcard sizes (4×6, 6×9, 6×11)

The three most common marketing postcard sizes are 4×6 inches, 6×9 inches, and 6×11 inches. Each has different USPS rate classes, print costs, and visual impact in the mailbox.

Why it matters

A 4×6 postcard meets USPS dimensional standards for the postcard rate, making it the least expensive to mail — ideal for recalls, reminders, and frequent touchpoints. The 6×9 is the most popular upgrade: it offers nearly twice the design canvas and stands out more in a mail stack. The 6×11 is the largest standard format, making a bold statement for grand openings, premium offers, and high-value campaigns. When choosing a size, weigh the incremental cost against the campaign goal: a quick recall may need only a 4×6, while a new-patient acquisition campaign might justify the larger real estate of a 6×9 or 6×11.
